Projects

AG Energy Conservation & Efficiency Initiative - Project promotes the use of energy conservation practices among poultry producers and crop farmers throughout the State of Arkansas

WRP (Wetlands Reserve Program) - The Council has two agreements with NRCS to accelerate delivery of the Wetlands Reserve Program of the Natural Resource Conservation Service.

Farmers Market - In 2007 the Council held meetings and brought together members of the community to help establish the Downtown Newport Farmers Market. The market started out with 5 to 6 vendors and was located on a parking lot with the vendors being sheltered under blue tents that were donated to the market. After 3 years of fundraisers and grants that the Council worked on with the Mayor of Newport the market was able to build a permanent pavilion that was place on land donated to the City of Newport. We now have approx. 20 vendors that participate in the marker. The Council remains a member of the Downtown Newport Advisory Committee and continues to work with the Mayor, NEDC, Jackson County Cooperative Extension Service and other members of the community in matters related to the operation of the market.

REAP (Rural Energy for America Program) - The Council continues to work with Poultry Producers and Crop farmers in the Rural Development grant application process to obtain funds for energy efficiency improvements to their poultry houses and farm irrigation equipment.
